Falassarna Beach
Falassarna, 59 kilometers west of Chania and 12 kilometers west of Kissamos, is one of the most famous destinations in Crete. The area is known for its beaches as well as its ecological interest, as it has been included in the Natura 2000 plans due to its rich flora, fauna and natural beauty.
Descending from Platanos towards the west coast, there are two main directions one can follow to enjoy the sun and the sea. The first leads to Falassarna, a magical and cosmopolitan destination with small hotels, taverns offering Cretan cuisine, beach bars and coffee bars for delightful drinks at sunset. The beach in Falassarna, awarded as the most beautiful in Crete and one of the 10 best in Europe, offers crystal clear waters and white pink sand. When the winds get stronger, the area becomes a magnet for windsurfing enthusiasts.
Falassarna beach stretches for about 3 kilometers and is divided into smaller beaches, such as Pachia Ammos and Kalami beach. Pachia Ammos is the most famous beach, with a length of 1 kilometer and exotic sand, while Kalami beach extends for 800 meters. Near the chapel of Agia Paraskevi, there is a small beach 400 meters long, ideal for children due to the natural harbor created by nature. All beaches are organized and offer modern amenities.
The second direction leads to Limenisko Platanos, a quiet area with small coves. The beaches here, such as “Kolympito”, “Rapanas” and “Kaikaki”, are ideal for those seeking tranquility and clear waters. The area is not organized, but there are taverns and a few rooms to rent. Falassarna is an ideal destination for quiet holidays, with beautiful beaches and excursions, as well as for romantic moments with the impressive Cretan sunset.
